Cory Horne

Originally from Saskatchewan, Cory Horne works in her home studio in Kimberley, B.C.

Drawing wildlife was her passion as a child, and she is currently creating images in acrylics and watercolour, of the animals and birds native to the Rocky Mountains.

Primarily self-taught, Cory is continually learning through reading, attending workshops and demonstrations, as well as visiting galleries across the country and talking with other artists. In 2006, she attended the Canadian Society of Painters in Water Colour Symposium at the University of Calgary, and received instruction from five of Canada’s premier artists.

Cory exhibits in local and regional shows, and has received several awards for her work, including People’s Choice Award at ArtsAround 2005 and 2007. She has been featured in Kootenay Carnival Magazine May 2006, as well as interviewed for the Articulate Magazine Spring / Summer 2007. In 2006, Cory was awarded an educational grant from the CKCA and the Columbia Basin Trust, as well as from the Cranbrook and District Arts Council. A piece titled Young Cougar was chosen by Ducks Unlimited Canada as a finalist in their 2008 National Art Print Portfolio Competition. Spring Favourites - Dandelions and Grizzlies placed second in the BC Wildlife Federation Artist of the Year 2010 art competition, and received People's Choice Award at the 2009 Kimberley Art Festival, as well as a Second Place Award in the Established Artist Juried Competition of that same festival.

Cory has completed several commissions, and has released eleven limited edition giclees on canvas. Her artwork has been the subject of major fund-raising projects over the years for the Kimberley Helping Hands Food Bank. 150 signed prints of Fifty Miles of Mountains raised well over $10,000.

In December 2008, Cory was juried into the Federation of Canadian Artists as an active member.

Cory’s work is available locally at The Trickle Creek Gallery in Kimberley, BC, The Chateau Kimberley, and The Cottage, Cranbrook, BC.
