F.W. Greenhome "Scenic View" Mural

CDAC President Janice Edwards and artists Marg Skober, Lorae Fleming & Val MacPhee

The Cranbrook & District Arts Council was recently approached by members of the nursing care unit at the F.W. Green Memorial Home to see if any artist(s) would be available to paint a wall mural. Their dementia unit had identified the need for a mural to re-direct patients past an exit. Representatives of the Arts Council visited the site and several member artists were contacted to see if they would be interested in participating in developing the project.

Lorae Fleming, Marg Skoberg and Valerie MacPhee, local visual artists, donated their skills and time, Sutherland’s Decorating Centre donated paint and Cranbrook & District Arts Council covered additional costs. The result is a true community project, and a demonstration of people helping people.

"The mural has worked beyond our expectations. A brilliant solution!" said Susan Vold, the Greenhome Recreation Aid responsible for initiating the project.

In response, arts council President Janice Edwards said that the Cranbrook & District Arts Council, its members and supporters are proud to contribute to the well-being of seniors, and to raise the awareness of arts in the community.
